• Your Collections & Media: We store data about the physical media you track, including books, movies, games, vinyl, and TV shows. This involves your custom shelves, wishlists, favorites, and lists.
• Manual Entries & Photos: When manually adding items, we collect the details you provide (such as item condition, age statements, barcodes, edition details) and photos you upload for cover media or identification.
• Social & Activity Data: If you use our social features, we collect data on your friendships, ratings, check-ins, event logs, likes, and comments. Visibility is subject to your privacy settings (Private, Friends, or Public).
• Device & App Usage: We collect push notification device tokens to send you alerts, as well as your notification preferences. We also track which news items you have seen or dismissed.
• Crash & Diagnostic Data: If the app crashes or encounters an error, we collect technical diagnostics — such as the device model, operating system version, app version, and details of the error — through Sentry, a crash reporting service, so we can find and fix problems. If you are signed in, crash reports may be linked to your account (user ID, username, and email) so we can investigate issues you report. Crash reports are used only for debugging, not for advertising or profiling.
• Image Processing: To automatically identify items from photos, we process images you upload through our image recognition system.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data with third-party service providers (like Google Gemini for image recognition, AWS for media storage, and Sentry for crash reporting) strictly to operate our services. Social data is shared with other users based entirely on the visibility tier you configure.

5. Cookies & Website Tracking

The ShelvesAI website does not use cookies and does not track you. We set no cookies of any kind, first-party or third-party. We run no analytics, advertising, or attribution services, no tracking pixels or web beacons, no session recording, and no device fingerprinting. We load no third-party scripts or social widgets — our fonts, styles, and images are served from our own domain, so no outside company observes your visit. We do not track you across other sites or apps, and we do not build any profile, browsing history, or advertising identifier about you.

Because there are no cookies and no trackers, there is no cookie banner on this site and no tracking consent to give or withdraw. The only information the website receives from you is what you deliberately submit — for example, the email address you type into our mailing list form, or the credentials you enter on the password reset page. As with every website, the servers that deliver our pages necessarily process basic connection information such as your IP address and browser type in order to send you the page and protect the site from abuse; we do not use that to profile or identify you, and we do not sell or share it.

The mobile app is different, because it has to be: it stores your account, collection, photos, and social activity so that the app can work at all, as described above. That data exists to run the service you asked for — not to track you, and not to be sold.

We retain your data as long as your account is active. You can request to delete your account and all associated data by contacting our support team or using the account deletion feature within the app.
